Why Visit Julian?

Because it's a quick, scenic get-away from the city. Because as the scent of the air changes form sea-breeze to pine, your mind lets go and you quickly feel like you're on vacation. And because progress has graciously overlooked Julian.

The major event for visitors is a leisurely stroll through town - all four blocks of it - peeking into quaint, turn-of-the-century buildings, sipping freshly pressed apple cider or eating hot-from-the-oven apple pie. Those stricken with a touch of New England madness also flock here each autumn to walk in the woods and watch the silver and gold showers of falling oak leaves, and to admire the acres of apple trees heavy with fall fruit that dot the landscape, just as gold mines bustling with activity once did in the late 1800s.

In the winter, visitors come seeking snow, in spring wildflowers, and in the summer seeking solitude. But it's the lure of the autumn harvest that pulls the largest number of visitors up the mountain to this scenic, agricultural hamlet.

Spend the days visiting unique shops or climb aboard a horse-drawn carriage for a ride into the countryside.

The historical gold-mining town of Julian offers visitors a sense of early California with its original false-front stores, historical sites, and guided tours of Eagle and High Peak Mines.

Take a horseback ride, llama or donkey trek, and visit the dinner theater, winery, pear and apple orchards. And, don't forget Julian's famous apple pie.
